Biography
Philip J. Hoffmann’s practice encompasses all aspects of patent law—from patent preparation and prosecution, to client counseling, to practice before the U.S. Patent Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Phil has experience in technologies including mechanical, electrical, design, computer science including hardware and software, financial, and chemical.
Phil has over 25 years of experience in patent law, having worked as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent Office, in-house at a Fortune 50 company, as an attorney at multiple AMLAW 25 law firms and at a large international IP law firm, and as an Administrative Patent Judge (APJ) at the PTAB. As a judge, Phil presided over more than 2,000 appeals, and dozens of Patent Office trials including covered business methods (CBMs) and inter partes reviews (IPRs).
Prior to working in patent law, Phil worked as an engineer at the Astronautics Division of Lockheed Martin, designing components of the Mars Lander for the 1998 Mars Surveyor (MSP’98) Program. Phil also worked at General Dynamics/Electric Boat, on the New Attack Submarine (NSSN) Program.
