Biography

Jayla Harvey’s practice includes advising companies on patent procurement, patent portfolio analysis, and analyzing patent related risks and opportunities. Before joining BoMc, Jayla worked for several years as a patent attorney at a boutique IP firm. While there, she developed her effective advocacy skills for clients, building on her research studies and various work experiences.

Jayla has managed patent prosecution across a wide range of technologies including life sciences, biotech, biomedical devices, geospatial data, electromechanical products, software, networking, and artificial intelligence (AI). She counsels clients on portfolio strategies, patent infringement, validity, and clearance. Jayla’s experience also includes district court litigation and evaluating third-party patents.

Prior to starting her career as a patent attorney, Jayla earned her B.S in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Howard University. While at Howard, Jayla worked as a research assistant in a computational biology lab that focused on tracking the evolutionary history of various genetic traits. While participating in this innovative work, she honed her excellent research skills and learned to appreciate the intricacies of complex projects. Jayla uses her scientific background to understand and discuss technical aspects of clients’ businesses from everyday items to medical devices across multiple disciplines.

Jayla also served as a teaching assistant in several college level laboratory classes, including microbiology and advanced evolutionary biology.
